Dominion Stage warms the winter season with the parody The Musical of Musicals – The Musical! The five vignettes feature the ingenious music of Eric Rockwell and snappy lyrics of Joann Bogart in the stylings of five of musical theater’s famous composers/collaborative
teams – Rodgers and Hammerstein, Stephen Sondheim, Jerry Herman, Andrew Lloyd Webber and Kander and Ebb. The premise of this whimsical and witty piece revolves around the simple melodrama plotline of “You must pay the rent, I can’t pay the rent!”’s review (2/10/05) of the original production in 2005, wrote of Rockwell and Bogart, who also developed the book for the show, “The pair’s affection for and knowledge of the musical heavyweights’ work clearly runs deep. The parodies often are as show-specific as they are ecumenical in skewering each composer’s signature style, but the digs are subtle enough to keep the cognoscenti smiling and broad enough for occasional musical fans.”

Director William D. Parker heads up the artistic team, with local performer/musician Michael Daguiso performing as music director and
keeping the four talented, zanny cast members inline as the show’s solo pianist. Local favorites Amy Conley, Harv Lester, Katie McManus and Sam Nystrom pull of the multiple characterizations, hamming and hawing their way through the fast-paced takes on each composer’s iconic favorites. For the young and old, Musicals provides a great evening of entertainment for the entire family.
